Business Networking Online - Is it Worth Your Time?

Time is always of the essence. We all have the same amount each week, each day, each year. However, how we choose to spend our time is what defines a profitable business person from a busy professional. If you are an entrepreneur, I know you are always thinking of ways on how to grow your business for free and fast. Guilty! I've been there; done that, now what? The following article takes a look at why and how you should create a business networking presence online. Yes, networking online is worth your time and we will give you 6 simple tips to help you create and establish a powerful online presence that will get you the results you need. Let's look at the why first.

1. People communicate differently. Some people want to type their way into your heart, others prefer the phone and some still prefer face to face contact. Networking online appeals to people who check email, search online and just people in general who grew up with personal computers or other devices that connect us to people fast. Fast, is the reason you want to have a powerful networking presence. People are in a hurry to find what they want and they generally buy from the first vendor who responds, offers a "good" price and follows up.

2. Why Not? It doesn't hurt to have a networking presence that works for you. Networking online can work against you if you are not disciplined to set a specific amount of time to update your profiles, interact with friends or business contacts. You can get sucked into what you think might be prospecting, but could very well be a time suck.

3. Before you venture into 5 or 6 different, business networking sites, evaluate prior to joining. Start with a search as simple as adding the following keywords into Goolge search engine: business networking site. Visit all of the business networking sites on the first 2 pages of Google, which should provide you with 20 or so sites to visit. You should have a reaction to the homepage almost immediately. Find a button or link that allows you to take a tour. If you want to consider sites that might be starting up, then go beyond page two in the search results. Sites that appear within the first 20 results are sites that either have the funding to grow by advertising or sites that have grown organically, which is a good thing for you either way. You want to be a part of something that will generate leads or possible business connections/opportunities for you without much effort from you. Once you have your list of 5-6, you may want to check out how do the sites compete against each other at compete.com. If you type in the name of two competing websites on the home page of compete.com, you will get statistics that will show whether or not the network is growing.

4. Content is King. Your content on your profile and your ability to keep your friends or contacts connected, will remind your contacts of your products or services. Next, keep it positive, even if you enjoy a little bit of sarcasm. When reading, people might not understand your tone or message.

5. Networking within your sphere of influence is just as important as earning new friendships or contacts. Life as an entrepreneur is a numbers game. The more people you meet, the more your brand, product or service gets in front of potential clients/customers. If you are a big business and you're establishing a networking presence, you have yet another tool to communicate with your clientele in a manner that suits his or her communication style.

6. Manage your time. 5 or 6 networking is a lot. So, you may want to consider ping.fm, which is a service that will update your networks for you. In some cases, spend 30 minutes per day making new contacts. Some contacts may not want to network with you, which is fine. Not everyone will be in need of your product or service at the time you approach them.

Business Networking - Who Wins?

Business Networking - it's a buzz word for today, but who wins? If two people network, do they both win? If both of them win, does the customer lose? Ideally, business networking should result in a win-win-win situation. And in most cases, that is what does happen. Individuals or businesses can network to provide enhanced services, faster services, and better talent to clients than either would have working alone. The client can belong to either business, or be shared by both. Clients can be an existing client, or new, or one that both individuals or businesses pitched together to obtain.

For example, a print advertising agency has a client that wants a video production. This ad agency can network with a reputable media production house to provide the video production. At the same time, the video house can benefit by having the print agency do any related printing or DVD covers, etc., that might be needed. The video producer can focus on what they do best, the video production, and leave the print items to the network partner who specializes in that area. Neither has to take on the burden of new talent, or purchasing equipment to provide what the client wants. The network relationship can be informal or put on paper like a partnership. Meetings would be helpful in advance to propose the project, and determine the division of duties, and of course, important monetary distributions and bookkeeping details.

Looking at "business networking - who wins?" from the client side, the benefits are working with one contact person (sales or marketing representative) who is the intermediary between the client and both companies. Simplification of payment and records, and time saving are also cost savers. There may be some actual dollar savings for the client who works with business networkers also, if they pass along some of their own savings to the client. The client receives better product from both companies who network together, because each is skilled in their particular area and do not have to try to "wing it" or start from scratch in an area they do not know.

Putting together these business networking partnerships can be easy or hard, depending on the principals involved, but it is always interesting, especially when it works like clockwork. The most difficult part is probably the interactions of different personalities, especially in an ego involved area like creative services. There must be a willingness to negotiate and compromise, to reach effective solutions and remain client centered. On the client side, they may not even realize what is going on the in background with the networking process. Nor do they have to know about any business networking. All they need to know is they are getting the best, highest quality performance from the company(ies) they have hired for this job.

If two people (or businesses) network, do they both win? If both of them win, does a customer lose? Yes and no, if business networking is conducted properly, the business networkers win, and the customer does not lose. Otherwise there is no benefit to the networking!

Business Social Networking - How Good Are You?

Do you hold a position in your company or in your business that requires you to meet a lot of new people? If you are and do, then how good are your social networking skills for the business?

Are you aware that if your social skills are not up to 'par' or better, that it could and more likely will, cost your company kudos and contracts? No one wants to deal with or be associated with, people who are not of the same ilk as themselves. Remember the old adage that our parents drummed into us as kids? "You will be labeled by the company you keep" and that proverb is as relevant today as it was back in the days it was originally coined.

Quite aside from the fact that any company who gives any business a contract, will then be having a lot of contact with that company holding the contract; and if they are bad mannered or inconsiderate to deal with, then the chances are high that should something go awry, as often happens, that anyone who is inconsiderate to deal with will be even worse when the going gets rough. These are all 'trigger' points to be considered when doing business with a company or an individual within that company.

It may sound a bit "snobbish" and perhaps to a degree it is, but what if it is a pointer towards the character of the person you will be dealing with or of the mindset of that company? Is this really someone or a business that you want to be doing business with?

Just as there are certain body language signs to look for when assessing a persons character, so are there "company" signs to assess before being known to be associated with them. If the company, unbeknown to you, had a reputation in their neighborhood of being unreliable, uncooperative and biased in some way, is this someone or a company, that you want to be seen doing business with? Even if they are the only suppliers in the state, I suggest you could save yourself a lot of money, worry and angst by finding a supplier or some other company more cooperative, pleasant and willing to do business with from interstate or inter region.

This is why it is imperative to do a thorough "due diligence" check on individuals and companies if you are seriously considering doing business long term with someone or some company. These due diligence checks can save you a lot of money in the short and long term not to mention protecting your personal and your business reputation.

On the other side of the coin, if you have excellent networking skills, are reliable, cooperative, considerate, fair in your dealings with people and protect your reputation; you will not only gain a lot of good Kudos by word-of-mouth (WOM) advertising, you are much more likely to pick up some very good contracts and people will enjoy dealing with you. This will make your work environment more pleasant and it is also much more profitable.

Learning how to improve social skills leads to happier and more prosperous business and social results. Chivalry, courtesy and conversation are not dead, they just have to be actively practised http://www.learninghowsite.com

Principles For Successful Business Networking

A man without friends is just like that cloud which can be blown in any direction by wind. Making friends is not only the nature but the need of human beings to move successfully in life. Business networking is the essence of today’s world; for entrepreneurs, big and small, even for those who don’t own their own business and are employed. Making connections and building relationships becomes necessary for successful life now. These business networks not only help you in daily life’s needs but also prove to be a great deal of help for your business

. All the people try to build networks in their business area specially. But building good networks is an art in itself and everyone cannot do this successfully. To master this art some points must be kept in mind which can help you a great deal.

First of all, always try your max to be genuine. As all of us don’t like to pay for a service which is claimed to be the best but don’t give enough to its customers. Similarly others expect from you. So don’t try to claim or pretend to be the one who you are not. It’s all about building trust with your relations whether blood relations or business relations. Be authentic and genuine and build trust and try your level best not to break this trust.

You should be quite clear what you actually want from your business networks. This will help you choose your group and event of interest. Some meetings and events need you to volunteer and help others. Some are organized to make business networks. Others are especially for learning. You should know what you aim to get out of the connections you will make. It will lead to the desired actions.

When you know what you want, then you should visit as many events and groups of your interest as possible. You should observe the behaviors and attitudes of the members of groups before joining. They must be supportive and competitive enough to make you learn something. Group leaders are the most important people. Observe them if they are talented and competitive.

Being visible is very important to be important for others. So always try to volunteer which will make you noticeable in front of many important people you want to join. Volunteering will also help you to help those who helped you sometime.

Always show deep interest in your meetings. Ask open ended questions which demand answers more than yes or no and need some explanation. More questioning shows your curiosity and interest in the opposite person and his services. This is a great tip for making connections and starting conversations.

Always try to be recognized as a powerful reserve of networks and referrals for other people. It will make you more visible and let other people contact you when they need contacts and help.

You should be very specific what you want actually. So try to make contacts who can help you and to whom you can give back.

Business Networking In The 21St Century For Men And Women

The U.S. may be in an economic recession; however, it does not mean that you cannot use your personal experience and business background to find a better paying job or additional job. Through online and offline networking, you can find your dream job or meet potential clients and customers to increase your business revenues.

Since the inception of the Internet, email and online groups, men and women have been able to communicate with more people from more places across the globe than once imaginable. Online social networking is exploding across the Internet as more employers and agencies are turning to social network sites to find potential employees and to check work references. Knowing the most popular social networks on the Web in addition to offline network groups can dramatically increase your chances of being connected to the right people or your next employer.

Networking does differ somewhat for men and women, but only in how each gender relates to the other. "Men define themselves through business or the type of work experience they have," says Patty Sadallah of the Redwood Sisterhood. "Whereas women define themselves through their personal relationships." How does this difference affect men and women's networking roles?

Women will have to overcome some challenges in order to network offline with male colleagues and other potential business contacts that are dominated by men, according to an article published in The Cleveland Women's Journal (Feb-Mar 2009).

Tips for Women to Successfully Network with Men

• Add a feminine touch when talking with men by asking about their personal interests, family and hobbies.
• Send thank you notes to those you met and networked with at social events and include a business card if you did not get a chance to give them one already. This adds a personal feminine touch and may garner you a future interview or phone call to discuss an opportunity.
• Ask questions or advice relevant to your business or position. Men like to be the expert on something and this tactic will validate that you find them trustworthy.
• Find allies with a male colleague or two who values your insight and expertise. Attend networking functions with this person, as he is more likely to include you in conversations and introduce you to other people.

Women and men should join both online and offline groups in order to grow their professional network. Through joining free online business networks, you not only grow your own network, but will also have an opportunity to promote your business, expertise and take part in discussions. Three of the most popular online business networks are Linked In, Fast Pitch Networking and Facebook. LinkedIn and Fast Pitch both have free and paid membership choices. By joining these three networks, you will be able to connect with more people and businesses than email alone.

Features of Top 3 Online Business Social Networks

1. LinkedIn has over 10,000 groups to join and to be an active participant through discussions, Q & A, upload press releases, articles, connect to corporate blogs and more.
2. Fast Pitch Networking also has many of the same features as Linked In, but it also has a weekly live chat for those who opt for the paid membership.
3. Facebook was once touted only for those who had an email ending in '.edu'; it added a business application in 2008 for all types of businesses to connect in addition to creating groups by its members. You can create more than one account by using a different email address at signup.

Looking for other online business networks? Anyone can find just what he or she is looking for through simple searches using your favorite search engine. Search for top business social networks, niche social networks, or insert your industry along with social networks or social media (manufacturing social networks). There is much to be read, discussed, and critiqued when researching online social networks and social media.

Scour your local and regional newspaper for events in your area either free or low cost to meet people and to look for job opportunities. Several business social networks offer in-person networking events in many cities across the country. Attend one and talk to other attendees about yourself, your current business/company, and offer a business card for future contact. Everyone who attends is looking to meet other people, so do not be afraid to introduce yourself.

Jointly Beneficial Relations In Business Networking

Business networking events and functions are thought to be something of huge excitement and fun for those who are looking for new contacts. Business networking is referred to as a process through which people develop jointly beneficial relationship with the other people in business, clients, customers and consumers. The relationship should be reciprocal and equally reliable on both sides. Business networking is not about meeting and greeting new people in the business events. People usually refer networking as a process of meeting new people which is a wrong definition.

The key to effective business networking relations is the development of jointly valuable and beneficial bond. But this is really a rare thing seen anywhere. At most of the events people shake hands, exchange business cards and leave. These business cards are said to be the huge opportunities to get jobs or business clients.

The major purpose of business networking is to increase the business profits. But these profits cannot be made possible if you don’t have built trust with your customers or clients. Trust is t he basic pillar on which any relation stands whether it is a relationship within family or with your customer. The trust can grow and become stronger if you make real efforts and be genuine. You should be true and authentic in your relationships.

These business networking meetings and events are a big reservoir of information. The best business networking events serve the purpose of exchanging information between business people. The first and foremost skill that you should learn about networking is “listening”. You concentrate very carefully on what others are saying and then respond to them very cautiously. You must concentrate what can be the way to help other people you are listening to. It is better than giving others the chance to help you. World is said to be like a mirror and our deeds and actions like reflection; whatever we give to the world, the good, the bad, comes back to us. So give the world the best and best will come back to you.

Listen carefully and show your interest to other person which will make him feel important. Ask them to introduce and then ask questions about their business, interests and other such questions which may make them elaborate things. People like to talk about their success and achievements. So ask them how they started their business and what hurdles they have to face? How they came to such a high rank in such a competition? Such questions may make them feel valuable and excited to tell about their success in business. Then start telling about you. Introduction should be prepared already and it should make the other people curious enough to ask enough questions. And then tell them about your business and services or products. You should make them feel that you are really valuable and different from others. A different introduction and unique presentation of your services or products will make the other people retain you in their memory for long.

Make Business Networking Profitable With Five Strategies

New clients are generally developed through the contacts we have made with other people. Business networking meetings and events provide the opportunity to enlarge the contact list especially when we build and cherish quality relations. Networking is not all about attending such events, visiting a networking group, have gossip with many people and collect as many business cards as possible. Business networking is all about building long lasting relationships and the networking events have huge potential for new relationships. Here come some strategies to make profits from networking:

Go for an appropriate networking event according to your interest. Good networking can be done only by attending business conferences, trade exhibitions and business networking events where you expect people of your business category to come. Going on every meeting does not generate good results.

Effective networking does not spell out making relationships with every one at a business meeting. Your focus should be quality instead of quantity. So meet and follow only those who match your interests. You must have seen some people in these events talking to one person while looking around. These people know about the networking rules well they are looking for the next victim actually. They just don’t stick to one person for too long, rather they excuse themselves after ten minutes or so by saying” it was nice meeting you”. Then they move on to the next person of group of their interest. Don’t just go to everyone. Focus on quality of contacts not quantity.

Be prepared to make your first impression everlasting. You have only one chance to build first impression. So do it right because if it’s done wrong, can’t be corrected afterwards. Factors which make up this first impression include your handshake style, your smile, confidence and the overall thoughtfulness. Handshake should be confident and firm to show your openness. Meet people with a true smile on the face and eye contact. Observe their eye color during your introduction. Listen to their introduction carefully and show your interest by asking to repeat their name if they don’t say it loudly. Ask them what they do before telling anything about you. Continue the conversation about their business, give comments and ask details about their business. Show your interest which will create their interest for you.

Talk clearly and concisely about your business. Put emphasis on important words. Prepare an introduction and presentation for your business. Introduction will elaborate what you do actually. It explains that what you exactly have to offer. The intro should be interesting enough for other people to ask questions about your business. When they ask, present your business intro in front of them. But always be genuine and truly honest. Never tell misleading stories as trust is the basic factor for any relation.

Invest on follow up. After the initial meeting you must follow up the people immediately, who you want to continue the relation with. Send handwritten notes to show your willingness and interest in continuing the relation.

Facebook is Useful For Business

Many businesses are using social media networks for marketing purposes these days. Who can blame them? Social media is a quickly growing conglomeration of people from many countries, ages, and ethnicities who can potentially be exposed to your brand. Advertisers from the days when radio was the biggest medium would find it mind boggling that advertisers today can reach millions of people with very little effort. The difficulty with Facebook is consistently presenting interesting, informative content and interacting with people on a personal level.

Like other forms of social media, Facebook is a very viral community where news and items of interest spread like a wildfire. This is perfect for businesses trying to spread the word with new products or special promotions. Want to know what people think about your brand or product? Set up a poll or quiz on your Facebook page. For example, today Nabisco cookies gave out a coupon for a free box of cookies to everyone who became a Facebook fan of their profile. PopTarts recently had a poll on their Facebook page asking what new flavor of pastry they should create next. When I see something of note such as this, I forward it on to my brother, sister, and my mom. For the average teenager or social butterfly with hundreds of friends, this type of sharing can have a huge positive impact on the company.

Part of the beauty of online advertising is that instead of hoping to hit your target demographic on television, web site advertisement allows your target demographic to come to you through search keywords. There are currently over thirty-five million Facebook users. Of that number, over half of them check their Facebook profile every day. People on Facebook are also becoming more and more willing to interact and "rub shoulders" with advertisers. As long as you aren't spamming or overly aggressive in your marketing techniques, people are willing to listen to your messages about your product. The more entertaining, weird, funny, unusual, etc. you can make that message, the more chance you have of going viral and reaching an enormous audience through your Facebook page. One company that understands this is Victoria Secret. Their "Pink" page is marketed as the "effortlessly cool younger sister" of the Victoria Secret brand. Fans can discuss what they like or dislike about the products, post pictures, and get information about shows and new products on a page designed for today's teenagers.

Why Your Business Needs a Dedicated Web Server

You don't need to pay for a dedicated web server to make money online. There are many shared hosting services that are more affordable and that can host several different sites. If your online business is growing though, there are a few good advantages that you can get from cutting lose from the groups that your sites are part of.

One advantage is that you get higher up time rates and faster page loading. If you have a lot of visitors trooping into your sites, you are guaranteed that your pages will be up most of the time and will load quickly enough to keep visitor interest. Websites that are located in shared servers are at a disadvantage because all the other sites in the same group can all at once experience traffic surges which can affect up time and loading.

To entrepreneurs, dedicated web servers are worth investing on. This is because you are likely to lose cash and returning visitors when your pages are always down. Because your internet materials aren't around for viewing, visitors are likely to leave and look for options offered by your competitors.

Shared hosting can affect traffic in more ways than one. Aside from turning off real visitors, poor up time can also have an impact on search engine robot activity. If your virtual property isn't around when robots visit, it might not get indexed or ranked. Without a high rank, you can't expect to obtain traffic from search engine results pages.

A dedicated server host can help your business beyond boosting traffic. It can also keep the online management of your network of sites organized and customized. You can choose only specific and uniform hardware, software, applications and technical tools for all your sites. This is something you just cannot get from shared hosting providers that make every feature available to all.

From the viewpoint of security, having the power to make choices is also important. Shared hosting offers little protection from shady activities or bad scripts that other site owners may use. Because you are under a shared host, your site may get flagged by search engines and security tools for activities performed by others.

A dedicated web server will also most likely come with excellent customer service. This is something you should expect because you are paying so much more than other site owners under shared categories.

The one major downside to getting your own spot is the expense. This is definitely not a cheap option which is why it is often only taken by big businesses. You might only want to consider separating from all the other sites in a host if there are signs of good, steady business growth. Aside from the increase in income, you can measure how well your business is doing by using tracking tools. A bounce rate that inexplicably grows may be a sign that visitors and robots are leaving your pages because of down times and slow loading.

Dedicated web servers are invaluable aides to online businesses. As soon as your venture shows signs of good health and growth, consider making the leap to a host that can give you more stable room to expand in.

Never Try to Convince Someone to Join Your Network Marketing Company

We all want to build our network marketing businesses. That means signing up others in our downline. And many of us would sign up anyone as long as they were breathing...and would go on an auto-ship! And sometimes we would even convince people to join if we had to.

I'm sure you have learned, like I have, what a mistake that was! I'll never, ever try to convince anyone to join my network marketing company again. Never! It was one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made in my MLM career. If you have to convince someone to join it will come back to haunt you.

People that need convincing either don't know what they want or they are unsure about being in business. Regardless, it is not a good idea to convince someone to join your MLM. For one thing if they are unsuccessful at building a business who will they blame? You!

And most people that need some convincing to join your network marketing business will more than likely need convincing to work it. Believe me, you will waste so much time with these people that it could affect the growth of your own network. In fact, it will affect your network.

As a leader you want to have people in your organization that know what they want. You certainly don't need the type of person that is wishy-washy, not knowing what they really want. These are the type of people that need convincing.

People that know what they want will look at a network marketing opportunity and know that it is for them. They will be able to see the potential that awaits them. They don't need to be convinced of anything. They KNOW what they want.

People that need convincing will sooner or later quit. And usually a lot sooner than later. And when they quit it takes no convincing at all. They just quit. They know that they didn't put any effort into building a business but they will say it was you that talked them into the business.

Think about your own experiences in life. Think about the times when someone tried to convince you to do something that you weren't really sure of. It's not a nice feeling being pressured into doing something. And if it involves money that makes things even more difficult.

No one likes losing money and this is what happens when you have to convince someone to join your network. It is difficult trying to sign up distributors at the best of times. But trying to convince a prospect to sign up will make things even more difficult for you down the road.

Stop when you catch yourself in the situation where you begin to try and convince someone to join your MLM business. it will only cause you problems in the future and it is nothing but a waste of your valuable time.

Twitter Power - How Twitter Can Turbo Charge Your Online Marketing

The advent of Twitter saw many people scratching their heads wondering what all the fuss was about. Often misunderstood as some sort of email, Twitter has created a new genre of communication in the online world.

The best way for me to describe it is to share my experience of going for a jog early one morning. I ran down a secluded dirt track, near where I live, which was lined with trees. And I have never heard so much noise coming from the birds in those trees, at 5 'O Clock in the morning. It was like Grand Central train station, a cacophony of tweeting that was amazing to hear.

And so it is with Twitter.com. It's a place for people to take a branch of a tree (or twitter page) and start tweeting. And as they tweet, they're joined by other 'twitterers' (or twits) and before you know it you have your own tree of twits all tweeting away.

Why do Entrepreneurs tweet?

The dynamic of Twitter is quite unlike any other social networking platform in that, much like texting, you have a 140 character limit for each tweet. But this is fine because your tweets should be mere muses, nuggets of information, pearls of wisdom or interesting quotes that are more than served by the limited character allowance.

So long as your tweets are focussed and share a theme, the twits you attract ( or your followers) will look forward to your next tweets and could well be people you could do business with. Further more if they like them enough, they may even pass the tweets to to their followers meaning that you could inherit twits in an exponential fashion.

It's an online marketers dream and used properly could turbo charge any marketing campaign and promote their home based business, but like most other online services, there are things that you need to be aware of.

Twitter.com likes to see that your ratio of followers to the people you are following has a tolerance of 10%. So if you have 2000 followers they wouldn't want to see you following more than 2200 people. This is so that people don't jump onto the system and start following as many random people as possible. It also prevents automated scripts from adding followers to a person's profile.

All this can serve to build the entrepreneurs home business and brand. And with thousands of people following their tweets, they could have a huge captive audience to send the occasional offering to in no time.

How to Find Freelance Writing Opportunities

Freelance writers often struggle with finding freelance writing jobs. They are out there to be sure, but where do you find them and how do you boost your chances of getting them if it's between you and other freelance writers? Below, we'll discuss how to find freelance writing opportunities.

Freelancing Sites

One of the most popular and most lucrative ways freelance writers can find writing opportunities is through online marketplaces like Elance.com. Individuals who need projects completed will post them on freelancing sites and then freelance writers can submit proposals on them. By submitting proposals often and creating specific proposals for different jobs, you can really find a lot of great job opportunities with freelancing sites.

Network

Another great way to find freelance writing opportunities is to network with others. Think of the kinds of people who would be in need of freelance writers. Website designers may have clients that need written projects, as would logo designers, and many others online. Join forums and groups and network with others. Put the link to your website or blog in your signature and let others know what it is you do. This is a great way to find writing opportunities.

Social Media Sites

Social media sites are great ways to connect with others who may need your services. When you create your profiles and befriend others, remember the people most likely to need your services - anyone who has a website including non-profits, businesses, entrepreneurs, etc. Put a link back to your website or blog in the profile of your social media site, and discuss the things you do. Remember not to send spam to anyone or you could end up banned and probably won't get any work at all. Still, these are great sites for drumming up work.

Ad Sites

There are ad sites you can utilize to find writing opportunities as well, such as Craigstlist.com. Many people post 'wanted' ads on Craigslist and you can respond to the writing offers with your resume or best samples. You can also post an ad detailing the kind of writing you do and hope to get some bites from there.

Put the word out with your friends too and let them know what you do and that you're taking on new clients. Word of mouth is a very powerful advertising tool! There are many fabulous ways to find freelance writing opportunities but the ones above are tried and true and most likely to help you find something positive.
